Giants Analysis

As alluded to, S.F. has undergone several changes since the conclusion of last year. Bob Melvin will depart from the San Diego Padres in favor of returning to Northern California. Does that mean the Giants are able to break a recent strand of mediocrity?

San Francisco has played to a 160-164 combined record over the past two seasons. Last year, the Giants battled deep into the season before falling from playoff contention amid a September collapse. Still, on the shores of McCovey Cove, an improved roster should surface in 2024.

On the heels of Brandon Crawford signing with the St. Louis Cardinals, ace pitcher Logan Webb becomes the undisputed clubhouse leader in the "City by the Bay." In 2023, Webb was as durable as it gets, pacing MLB with 216.0 innings pitched.

As a pleasant surprise, switch-hitting catcher Patrick Bailey was a prevalent bright spot for San Francisco; he and left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison will look to be the Giants' next dominant battery for years to come.

S.F. was sure to bolster their outfield ranks over the recent offseason. Coming over from KBO, Jung Hoo Lee will handle duties in the middle while Jorge Soler adds pop to the lineup. Of course, San Francisco can certainly use more power; the Giants ranked dead last amongst National League teams in OPS (.695).

Playing home games by the cove, the Giants' picturesque ballpark is often a tough place to play for visiting teams. Whether it is the 24-foot high brick wall in right field, rampant swirling winds, or surrounding sea air, San Francisco's Oracle Park can be harsh on hitters and outfielders alike.

Within the NL West, the Giants are slated behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres. At FanDuel Sportsbook, San Francisco is priced with 15-to-1 odds in the divisional market while showing a 65-to-1 label to win the World Series.

Genuinely, it will be an uphill battle this year for the "Boys from the Bay."
