Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS. Oftentimes, filling out a lineup with quality players on the back end is the difference between cashing and going home empty-handed.

Here are some low-salary players to target on FanDuel for Friday's main slate.

Joe Musgrove, SP, San Diego Padres ($8,900)

Joe Musgrove is enjoying another solid campaign pitching for his hometown team. In his third year with the San Diego Padres (eighth MLB season overall), Musgrove is 5-2 through 10 starts and has earned wins in each of his past two appearances.

Musgrove and the Friars will host the Washington Nationals on Friday night. While the Nats usually do a good job limiting punchouts, they don't pack much power. Washington's team OPS of .711 ranks just 21st.

This game will be played at Petco Park in downtown San Diego, which has notoriously skewed in favor of pitchers. Sitting at an elevation of only 13-feet, Petco is the second-lowest MLB ballpark. The baseball has such a tough time traveling in that sea-level environment, the Padres have been forced to move in the fences on multiple occasions.

Ground balls are a pitcher's natural best friend. In 2023, Musgrove is inducing ground balls from his opposition at a 46.3% rate, which would be the second-highest clip of his career if the season ended today. His strikeouts are down compared to his other seasons with the Padres, but he is still punching out 8.1 hitters per nine innings.

numberFire projects 36.5 FanDuel points (4.11 per $1,000) for Musgrove. That is the highest value figure among all of Friday's pitchers.

Seth Brown, 1B/OF, Oakland Athletics ($2,400)

Seth Brown of the Oakland Athletics probably isn't a name that jumps out at you from a DFS perspective very often, but he does present high upside in certain situations. Scheduled to face Chris Bassitt and the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada on Friday, today may just be that "certain situation."

Brown's extremely frugal salary of $2,400 is what initially caught my eye. On top of that, numberFire projects 10.2 FanDuel points out of Brown on Friday. That equates to the best value score (4.26) for any outfielder on the board.

The left-handed Brown will hold the platoon advantage over Bassitt. For Brown, all of his home runs this year have come off of right-handed pitching.

Additionally, Rogers Centre in Toronto is known to be a hitter's park. Showcasing a fast artificial turf surface and an extremely encompassing frame (either open or closed), Rogers is a friendly place to take at-bats. It was the seventh-best park for homers in 2022, per Statcast Park Factors.

If you are looking for a low-salary bat, Brown needs to be on your radar.

J.D. Davis, 3B, San Francisco Giants ($3,000)

After some whacky travelling from Milwaukee to D.C. to California over the past three days, the Arizona Diamondbacks will square off with the San Francisco Giants today in a battle of the current top teams in the NL West.

Giants third baseman J.D. Davis has a favorable matchup against Arizona starting pitcher Zach Davies (7.11 ERA in 2023) on Friday night.

Davis has been San Francisco's best run producer this season, collecting 41 RBI so far. The grand slam he crushed off the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend certainly helped in that department.

Right now, Davis' OPS of .834 lands him 21st of all eligible National League hitters. His Statcast hard-hit rate sits at 48.5%, which is above average for Davis.

Against a struggling Davies, I see Davis putting together quality at-bats in a divisional tilt. Sorry, that head-to-head matchup is a little confusing with the similar surnames!

numberFire projects 10.6 FanDuel points from Davis, which is a reasonable number for a value hitter.
