WNBA Best Bets
Seattle Storm at Indiana Fever
Storm -5.5 (-112)
The Seattle Storm are starting to find their game, and that's bad news for the Indiana Fever tonight.
After dropping three of their first four games, the Storm have now racked up three straight wins and are beginning to look like the contender they built in the offseason. A big reason for their turnaround is that their big three is starting to perform together as a trio, with Jewell Loyd leading the way.
Loyd is the top scorer on the Storm with 19.4 points per game while Nneka Ogwumike is right behind her with 19.0 points. Skylar Diggins-Smith has started to click in her last two games, as well, scoring 16 and 21 points in those efforts. They alone should be able to overmatch a Fever team that just lost two core players.
While Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston will be good to go, the Fever announced that starting center Temi Fagbenle will be out two-to-three weeks with a foot injury. Erica Wheeler will also be out of action due to personal reasons.
Considering Indiana's shortcomings with both Fagbenle and Wheeler in the lineup, things should only get tougher for the 1-7 Fever.
Even though they're on the road, I like the Storm to keep up their hot play and cover at -5.5 tonight over Indiana.
Los Angeles Sparks at Chicago Sky
Over 161.5 Points (-112)
The Los Angeles Sparks and Chicago Sky have a lot of similarities on their teams, making the matchup a tight one to predict. It's why I prefer to go with Over 161.5 Points (-112) tonight.
Chicago has been a tough team, even if they sit at 2-3 so far this season. Defensively, the Sky average 10.6 steals a game, which is the third-most in the WNBA. While they're still without third overall pick Kamilla Cardoso, they have been able to lock it down and be a problem for their opposition.
On the offensive side, they create a lot of extra chances with 13.0 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks as the second-best in the league. It shouldn't come as a surprise, as rookie Angel Reese is averaging 8.6 rebounds, ranking 10th. Marina Mabrey is their top scorer with 16.8 points per game, and they have five players averaging over 10 apiece.
For the Sparks, they've been able to make their offensive buckets by shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc. That ranks second in the WNBA behind the Minnesota Lynx.
Los Angeles has been led by Dearica Hamby, who is leading the team in points (20.0), rebounds (12.7), assists (4.0), and steals (1.3). The Sparks will begin to trend up more when second overall pick Cameron Brink and fourth overall pick Rickea Jackson find their game on each end. Both have shown flashes in their first few games, so that may be the case again tonight. Brink is second in the WNBA with 2.8 blocks per game, so her defensive prowess is already showing.
When it comes to the 161.5-point total, the Sparks have gone over that in four of their six games. The Sky have done it in three of their five games. While they're among the league's lowest-scoring teams, I do believe in their chances of getting over the rather low total in what should be a tightly contested matchup.
