MLB Same Game Parlay Bets for Day 4/30/24
Cleveland Guardians at Houston Astros
Kyle Tucker to Record 2+ Total Bases (+100)
Jose Altuve to Record a Run (-170)
Combined Odds: +215
Kyle Tucker can sometimes go overlooked on a Houston Astros team that features the likes of Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, and Alex Bregman. Nevertheless, Tucker has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball recently, and he'll square off against Carlos Carrasco when the Cleveland Guardians come to town on Tuesday.
In his last 10 games, Tucker has tallied at least one hit in 9 of them, and he's hit a homer in back-to-back contests. The talented outfielder also has four multi-hit outings and five extra-base hits in his last 10 appearances.
With a premier matchup on tap for Tucker, he has +430 odds to hit a home run on Dinger Tuesday.
Similar to recent years, Carrasco is a pitch-to-contact pitcher who struggles to miss bats. Carrasco is currently in the 22nd percentile in chase rate (24.1%), 28th percentile in strikeout rate (18.9%), 13th percentile in average exit velocity (90.9 MPH), and 20th percentile in hard-hit rate (45.1%) across his first five starts in 2024.
Along with taking Tucker to continue his recent hot streak at the plate, we'll back Jose Altuve to record a run for the Astros. Altuve leads Houston in runs scored (21), and he's accrued 11 total runs in his last 13 games.
Although pitcher vs. batter metrics can be overvalued at times, Altuve does have 11 hits and only two strikeouts in 35 career plate appearances versus Carrasco. Even if Carrasco -- who has walked three-plus batters in three of his five starts -- is walking batters, Altuve still has a chance to get on base and potentially have someone like Tucker get him home.
Philadelphia Phillies at Los Angeles Angels
Spencer Turnbull to Record 5+ Strikeouts (-265)
Alec Bohm to Record 2+ Total Bases (-105)
First 5 Innings Result: Philadelphia Phillies (-110)
Combined Odds: +306
The Philadelphia Phillies have to be more than pleased with how Spencer Turnbull has performed in the backend of their rotation amid the absence of Taijuan Walker to begin the year. It'll be tough for the Phillies to remove Turnbull from their rotation as he's sporting a pristine 3.41 SIERA, 0.85 WHIP, and 28.3% strikeout rate through five starts.
Turnbull has noticeably added a sweeper to his arsenal, which has gotten a 33.3% whiff rate as his second-most used pitch (29.3% rate). Additionally, Turnbull has increased his curveball usage from 6.8% to 9.7% from 2023 to 2024, generating a 64.7% whiff rate when throwing that pitch.
Ahead of his sixth start, Turnbull will face a Los Angeles Angels squad that has the sixth-highest strikeout rate (24.9%) against right-handed pitching. Aside from Turnbull tallying six-plus strikeouts in four of his first five starts, the Angels have struck out five-plus times to five of the last six right-handed starters they've faced.
At the plate, Alec Bohm has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball for the Phillies. Bohm is amid a 13-game hit streak with eight multi-hit performances and 13 extra-base hits in that span.
While he's gotten just 40 plate appearances versus lefties in 2024, Bohm is rocking a .477 wOBA and .286 ISO in that split. Bohm has +460 odds to hit a home run with southpaw Tyler Anderson -- the expected starter for the Angels on Tuesday -- being in the 15th percentile in barrel rate (11.5%) and 31st percentile in xERA (4.52).
The combination of Turnbull's strikeouts and Bohm's bases gives confidence that the Phillies can secure a lead in the first five innings. Philadelphia has jumped out to a lead in the first five innings in each of their last six games.
Pittsburgh Pirates at Oakland Athletics
Ke'Bryan Hayes to Record a Run (+115)
Connor Joe to Record an RBI (+145)
Combined Odds: +284
Alex Wood is producing forgettable metrics across the board to begin the season for the Oakland Athletics, making the Pittsburgh Pirates an enticing team to target for prop bets. Despite having the fifth-highest strikeout rate (26.6%) to left-handed pitchers, the Pirates are registering the 12th-best wOBA (.324), 12th-best ISO (.143), and 12th-best wRC+ (106) in that split.
Strikeouts shouldn't be much of a problem for the Pirates versus Wood, who is in the seventh percentile in chase rate (20.9%), 30th percentile in whiff rate (22.2%), and 28th percentile in strikeout rate (18.8%). In his first six starts, Wood has also given up six-plus hits and multiple earned runs in five of those contests.
Among the players having success versus lefties on Pittsburgh's roster, we'll center our attention around Ke'Bryan Hayes and Connor Joe. Hayes is expected to bat leadoff against a left-handed starter, and he's tallied the second-most runs (13) on the Pirates.
Even though it's still very early in the season, Hayes has a .459 wOBA and .485 OBP against lefties compared to .286 wOBA and .322 OBP when facing righties. Also, Hayes has at least one hit in eight of his last nine games.
As for Joe, the versatile player for the Pirates has the second-most RBIs (13) on the Pirates and should be batting either third or fourth in Pittsburgh's lineup with Wood on the bump. Joe is recording a .391 wOBA and .395 OBP in his first 38 plate appearances against left-handed pitching this year.
