MLB Player Prop Bets to Target on Thursday 8/31/23

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing.

Please note that betting lines and numberFire's game projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. To Record 2+ Total Bases (-110)

The Miami Marlins have a solid matchup versus the Washington Nationals and offer a bit of value tonight.

The Nationals will have Joan Adon on the mound tonight, who is a pitcher we should be excited to see on the slate. Adon only has 24.0 innings pitched this season, so we'll look to his career numbers since 2021 for a larger sample size.

Since 2021, Adon has allowed a .373 wOBA, .514, SLG, 4.92 xFIP, 20.8% strikeout rate, 1.85 HR/9, and 40.9% fly-ball rate versus left-handed hitters. None of that is worrisome for opposing hitters, and it gives us a spot to target.

We'll turn to Jazz Chisholm, who comes in with a 121 wRC+, .351 wOBA, .358 BABIP, .227 ISO, 39.4% fly-ball rate, and 38.5% hard-contact rate versus righties.

Chisholm is awesome in this split and should be able to grab this prop tonight.

Braxton Garrett Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-110)

Let's look at under 4.5 for Braxton Garrett tonight.

Garrett is a solid pitcher, but there's nothing that truly leaps off the page about him. He comes in with a 24.3% strikeout rate this season, which is just a touch higher than the league average this season of 22.7%.

Recently, Garrett has been struggling a bit, posting a strikeout rate of 21.7% or lower in four of his last five starts. We also see him being limited to 81 pitches or fewer in three of those five outings.

Garrett will be up against the Nationals, who come in with an 18.5% strikeout rate versus left-handed pitchers, which is the second-lowest in the league. Even if Garrett's strikeout rate wasn't dipping, this isn't a great matchup for him to rack up the strikeouts because the Nationals are very disciplined at the plate.
