PORTLAND (10) has been in rock-solid form on wet tracks, with a pair of second-place finishes at New Plymouth in her last couple of starts. She has trialled on firmer surfaces, so there should not be an excuse there, and from a good draw, she is the one to beat. THUMBELINA (13) just battled on debut as a juvenile, and her trial form has been better, including a recent narrow win at a tune-up trial. She resumes with the advantage of the pole position and should be ready to rumble fresh. Check the market. NEFFU (1) has changed stables since an initial solid prep last season, which included a couple of placings. He resumes without the blinkers on and will be hitting the line late. Watch for any market leads. BUCCINO (6) has been trying to win a race for some time, but has been placed often, including a fresh third at Matamata 4 weeks ago. Stick with her. ARCTIC JEWEL (18) is a progressive mare with winning claims in this, especially from a good gate.
