Verdict

BIG RED TEQUILA (1) was backed as though unbeatable at the Kensington track a fortnight ago and the money was right. Cruised home on that occasion over 5f and won't have any trouble with the extra ½f today. Getting up in the weights but over this short course she should cope. The new Gary Portelli acquisition THAMES (3) is an interesting runner for Godolphin. Last raced when she came from nowhere to almost claim the Listed Denise's Joy at Scone in May. Was very competitive against a few handy fillies/mares in Victoria prior to that. Can win if forward enough. VANLEE (10) chased Big Red Tequila in vain when they clashed last start. Gets a 3lbs weight swing for a 1.4 length defeat and the blinkers go on so the gap can close a bit without surprising. USEAPIN (4) found the line well to be beaten under two lengths at Randwick last time. Very fit and a chance coming back to midweek company. VANESSI (8) is another who chased Big Red Tequila home last start. One for the exotics.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Tack

The equipment the horse wears, including saddle and bridle. A jockey typically has their own racing saddle, placed on each horse they ride just before the race.

Also Eligible

A horse that is entered but does not draw into the body of the field due to too many entries, and thus is not permitted to start unless there are enough scratches to shrink the field size.

Dead Heat

Two or more horses finishing so close at the wire, that they were unable to be separated on a photo finish and deemed to have tied.
