Verdict

Gollan-trained SIMPLY EXCELS (1) was quickly back on track when beaten a whisker over this distance in a CL2 at the Sunshine Coast. He will push forward and has a jockey switch to the talented 7lbs claimer Williams. Has been kept on the fresh side and can go one better. STEIN (12) is a promising filly who was backed off the map leading and winning a Doomben Maiden over this trip. Will jump and run from an inside barrier and keeps the handy 4lbs claim. She won't have to improve much to be fighting out the finish. CINDERSEA (5) is also promising. Had been off the scene for 420 days but was too good for a CL2 field at Ipswich first up. Didn't have the best of it in a CL3 at the Gold Coast following and will be fitter again. Jumps from an awkward gate but has more up the sleeve. The 7lbs claim brings her right into it. CORRUPTED (6) is busting to win and there was only a nose in it at Doomben last time. Maps well with Ben Thompson aboard and she could take this out without surprise.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Superfecta

A wager involving choosing the first, second, third, and fourth horses in one race in the exact order. A superfecta box involves paying more to ensure they can finish in any order in the top four spots.

Also Eligible

A horse that is entered but does not draw into the body of the field due to too many entries, and thus is not permitted to start unless there are enough scratches to shrink the field size.

Rabbit

Also known as a pacemaker; this is a horse with no expected chance of winning but is used to prompt a quick pace on the front end of the race to the benefit of a stablemate who is a closer.
