Arizona Diamondbacks Odds to Win the World Series

The Arizona Diamondbacks were the runner-ups in last year's World Series, losing to the Texas Rangers in five games. Following an improbable deep postseason run in 2023, there are mixed expectations for the Diamondbacks entering the 2024 campaign.

Despite the team's success a season ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks have the 14th-shortest odds to win the World Series in the upcoming season at +4000, via the World Series odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Will the Diamondbacks replicate -- or come close to replicating -- what they did in 2023?

Let's take a look at Arizona's betting odds, projections, and outlook for the 2024 MLB season.

Diamondbacks Analysis

The Diamondbacks were a youth-driven team in 2023, producing an 84-78 record before sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLWCS and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. After edging out the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS in a grueling seven games, Arizona would fall to Texas in the World Series.

Repeating the success they had last season will be easier said than done for the Diamondbacks, who will have to compete against the new-look Dodgers in the NL West. Besides handing an expensive contract to Shohei Ohtani in free agency, the Dodgers also notably added Teoscar Hernandez and Tyler Glasnow to their roster.

While Ohtani is an all-world talent, the Diamondbacks have an up-and-coming superstar of their own with Corbin Carroll. Carroll won NL Rookie of the Year in 2023, and he is tied for the eighth-shortest NL MVP odds (+2200) entering the upcoming season.

Even though the D-Backs tied for the eighth-fewest homers (166) last year, they also finished with the second-most stolen bases (166) and the fourth-lowest strikeout rate (20.4%). In hopes to improve on the power spectrum, Arizona added the likes of Joc Pederson and Eugenio Suarez, and they re-signed outfielder Lourdes Gurriel during the offseason.

The pitching staff is headed by starter Zac Gallen, who notched career-best marks in innings pitched (210.0) and strikeouts (220) in 2023. After finishing third in the NL CY Young voting last season, Gallen is tied for the fourth-shortest NL Cy Young odds (+1200) with Max Fried.

The rotation is expected to be vastly better in 2024 upon signing left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez in free agency, and Brandon Pfaadt is projected to make improvements in his second full season as a starter. Overall, the pitching could benefit from any sort of improvement after the entire pitching unit recorded the 12th-worst skill interactive earned run average (SIERA; 4.31), the 12th-worst WHIP (1.32), and the ninth-lowest strikeout rate (22.2%) in 2023.

Bringing back Paul Sewald to close games is crucial for the Diamondbacks after the veteran reliever earned 13 saves in 20 games following a trade from the Seattle Mariners during the 2023 campaign.

Winning the NL West is going to be a stiff challenge for Arizona this season despite having the second-shortest odds (+1000) to win the division. That being said, the Diamondbacks managed to put together an impressive effort last season with the second-best record among their Western rivals.

For a team that last won a World Series title in 2001, the D-Backs are looking to prove doubters wrong in 2024 with another stellar campaign.
