3 MLB Player Prop Bets to Target on Wednesday 8/30/23
Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.
Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing.
Please note that betting lines and numberFire's game projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.
Bobby Witt Jr. To Hit a Home Run (+470)
The Kansas City Royals are rocking a 4.27 implied run total and have a matchup worth targeting tonight.
We'll keep things pretty simple today with a good hitter against a bad pitcher -- along with some great odds.
That hitter would be Bobby Witt Jr., who is having a great season and comes in with a 110 wRC+, .336 wOBA, .218 ISO, 42.7% fly-ball rate, and 36.3% hard-contact rate versus right-handed pitchers. Witt also brings a low 18.8% strikeout rate in this split, showing he isn't wasting chances at the plate.
He'll be up against Andre Jackson, who has been with two teams this season and comes in allowing a .361 wOBA, .532 SLG, 2.50 HR/9, 41.4% fly-ball rate, and 46.6% hard-contact rate versus righty hitters.
The hard contact rate being that high puts him in a dangerous spot with Witt on the other side.
Marcus Semien To Record an RBI (+135)
A sizable 4.87 implied run total for the Texas Rangers should make them a clear option for player props tonight.
The New York Mets will have Denyi Reyes on the mound tonight, a pitcher with only 19.2 innings pitched at the MLB level between last year and this one.
In that time, Reyes has allowed a .335 wOBA, .438 SLG, 4.98 xFIP, .308 BABIP, 1.46 HR/9, 13.7% strikeout rate, and 41.5% fly-ball rate. It's a small sample size, but there's nothing that indicates Reyes is a pitcher we need to avoid.
We'll turn to Marcus Semien, who is rocking with a 121 wRC+, .348 wOBA, .282 BABIP, .196 ISO, 13.8% strikeout rate, 45.4% fly-ball rate, and 34.4% hard-contact rate versus righties.
Freddie Freeman To Record 2+ Total Hits (+170)
The Los Angeles Dodgers have their normal 5.34 implied run total tonight and are always capable of hitting that in a hurry.
Freddie Freeman is having an elite season, and we have some great odds for a player prop tonight. Just for the sake of comparison, Freeman to record 2+ total bases sits at -135. This differential is one of my favorites to target since the +170 odds are significantly higher than -135.
Of course, there are outcomes where Freeman has just a double tonight and would hit the base prop but not the multiple hits prop. I'm willing to roll with that and shoot for the plus money.
Freeman comes in with a 156 wRC+, .400 wOBA, .376 BABIP, .203 ISO, 15.8% strikeout rate, and 38.5% fly-ball rate versus right-handed pitchers. He's a borderline MVP candidate this season and is great in any matchup.
He'll be up against Brandon Pfaadt, who is struggling versus lefties this season by allowing a .372 wOBA, .538 SLG, 4.66 xFIP, .312 BABIP, 2.20 HR/9, 41.6% fly-ball rate, and 35.6% hard-contact rate.
