3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Thursday 8/31/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.

Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.

Ha-Seong Kim, 2B/3B/SS, San Diego Padres ($3,100)

Ha-Seong Kim has been a force against lefties this season, and with Sean Manaea expected to pitch the bulk of innings today for the San Francisco Giants, it sets up to be a good matchup for Kim.

Manaea hasn't been as bad as his 5.05 ERA indicates. His marks of a 3.59 SIERA and 3.90 FIP are two of the better ones of his career (SIERA being a career-best), but righties have given him fits, with Manaea allowing a .360 wOBA and 1.67 home runs per nine innings in the split.

Kim benefits as his numbers against lefties are through the roof. Against southpaws, Kim is hitting .326 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs with a .419 wOBA and .248 ISO. Every number is impressive for Kim as he also has a .984 OPS against left-handed pitchers.

Kim is projected for 10.9 FanDuel points, per numberFire.

Jake Burger, 3B, Miami Marlins ($3,000)

The Miami Marlins have an ideal matchup today against the Washington Nationals' Joan Adon. I like multiple values from the Marlins' lineup, beginning with Jake Burger.

The third baseman has been an offensive force this season with the opportunity he's been given as an everyday starter. Burger has hit a career-high 27 home runs while putting together a .270 ISO and .344 wOBA.

In August, he's been even better as his batting average has been up at .326. His strikeout rate for the month is down to 20.4%, as opposed to his season-long clip of 28.9%. Burger fits the mold of a value today and should be able to take advantage of Adon.

Adon has pitched in only six games this season in the majors, but the numbers haven't been all too good. He's up to a 5.25 ERA and 4.64 FIP while only striking out 20.8% of the batters he's faced. The Nationals' starter has a 46.4% flyball rate to boot, which should mean there will be plenty of opportunities for the Marlins to get the long ball going or to notch extra-base hits.

Miami has the best implied total of tonight's slate at 4.71. With the value the Marlins' lineup has at their modest salaries, Burger is just one of the Miami options you should consider tonight.

numberFire's model has Burger projected for 11.8 FanDuel points.

Josh Bell, 1B, Miami Marlins ($2,800)

Josh Bell was having a tough year until the Marlins got him at the trade deadline, and he's been the spark they were looking for.

Through 25 games with Miami, Bell has eight home runs -- just three fewer than what he had in his first 97 games of the season. He's also hitting to the tune of a .372 wOBA, .284 ISO, and .881 OPS.

With Adon's tendency to give up the flyball (46.4% rate), and with how Bell is lifting the ball in his time with the Marlins (44.9% flyball rate), the stars are aligning for a home-run type of day for the former All-Star.

numberFire has Bell as one of the top values of tonight's small slate as he's projected for 12.7 FanDuel points.
